SurgeonCheck Methodology

There is no other analytic platform that evaluates a surgeon's performance on such a granular level.

We are on a mission to create the “glass box” of healthcare and bring transparency to individual surgeon outcomes so that patients receive the best possible care.

SurgeonCheck's advanced analytic platform evaluates individual surgeon performance using a comprehensive set of nearly 300 quality measures. These measures are outcome-focused, informed by the latest peer-reviewed medical literature and clinical guidelines, and carefully vetted by board certified and fellowship trained surgical sub-specialists with over 500 years of combined experience. Because surgery is not “one size fits all,” each procedure has its own tailored quality measures, designed to minimize clinical and financial risk for patients and payers, while providing a fair, non-gameable, and objective assessment of a surgeon's quality and cost.

Our longitudinal evaluation examines data from pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative periods to capture a patient's complete care journey and considers diagnostic method, complications, and appropriateness, among other factors. We also assess the operative method chosen by the surgeon, enabling us to determine their adoption of cutting-edge technological advances and appropriateness of the surgical approach.

We compare each surgeon's performance against national benchmarks established by peer-reviewed medical literature and validated or adjusted via SurgeonCheck's machine learning algorithms and binning. National benchmarks ensure that all patients are directed to surgeons with the best outcomes and they allow us to identify “Surgeons of Excellence” locally.

Our team dedicated over six years to developing and rigorously testing the evaluation logic and quality measures before entering the marketplace. We continually refine and improve our evaluation process, driven by our commitment to leading the field of surgeon evaluation and providing the best surgeon recommendations to patients.
